U.S. News & World Report recently released their rankings of the nation’s best high schools. Determined by schools’ performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college, many of this year’s top performing schools were public charter schools.


Public charter schools in Maine continue to face opposition as their state’s House of Representatives
voted 91-56 in favor of LD 995, an act to establish a moratorium on the approval and operation of virtual charter schools. The act now awaits further votes in the Senate.

 

House Bill 1989/Senate Bill 2285, a piece of legislation aimed at strengthening Tennessee’s public schools, passed this week. The new law will create an automatic closure system for traditional public and public charter schools that fall in the bottom five percent of Tennessee’s public schools.
