A new report may be able to answer that question. In September, the Thomas B. Fordham Institute, a think tank in Washington, D.C., released a report that looked into chronically absent teachers. Their finding? Traditional public school teachers miss more school than charter school teachers.

Last week the nation’s charter school community convened in Washington, D.C. to celebrate, deliberate, and critically review all things charter. This is a favorite conference for me as I near my tenth year of work in the charter schools movement. My dad used to say it was nice to go home where he didn’t have to spell or pronounce our last name because everyone knew it. At this conference everyone knows charter schools serve all populations of students, they don’t pick and choose who will attend, and although a small number of non-profit charter schools may contract with a for-profit management company, most do not. We all know this and so we get to discuss other matters regarding charter schools.
